The United Nations Environment Programme is a United Nations body that seeks to care and protect for the environment through sustainable development. The council has actively looked at the many environmental crises the world has faced, including the ongoing climate change crisis, with the overarching commitment to sustainability. Since its establishment in 1972, the council has become a leader in promoting the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development on an international scale.
