The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization is a body of the United Nations created as a response to the firm belief of nations, forged by two world wars in less than a generation, that political and economic agreements are not enough to build a lasting peace. Peace, through UNESCO’s vision, must be established on the basis of humanity’s moral and intellectual solidarity. Since its creation in 1945, UNESCO has done much in promoting the cultural advancement of an increasingly globalized society, including the establishment of UN-designated World Heritage Sites.
