The International Atomic Energy Agency, otherwise known as the UN IAEA, is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system dedicated to promoting sustainable nuclear energy and inhibiting its use for any military purpose. Since its creation in July of 1957 during the Cold War, the IAEA has dedicated extensive resources in highly impacted areas of conflict, and safeguarded against nuclear disasters and weapons by developing restrictions. The IAEA continues to expand in research towards clean, sustainable nuclear technology while implementing regulatory oversight.
